Orange Is The New Black Cast Season 5

Of course, what fans are most excited to see in Season 5 is the answer to that crazy cliffhanger. The final moments of Season 4 saw Taystee start a prison riot after finding out that Caputo refused to mention Poussey's death in his press conference while also defending the CO that killed her. This resulted in all of the dorms coming together, armed in a hallway. Officer Humphrey tried to handle the situation and whip out an illegal gun, but Martiza Ramos quickly disarmed him. Daya eventually picked up the weapon, and had he and fellow CO McCullough get on the ground.

Most of the show's main characters are present during this confrontation, so one wrong move could quickly take the life of several characters, including Taystee, Judy King , Red, or Flaca . Alex and Piper happened to run away from the riot, so they're safe. These usually end in casualties, deadly scenarios between prisoners and their rival factions, and overt violence. While the prison is low security, the truth is that the riot was super unrealistic.

Red was running around on drugs, the prisoners made a joke of the guards, and the women were snorting coffee grinds. The writers must have figured there was some sort of comedy within the dismal state of the shot guard being thrown around like a rag doll, Piscatella's questionable photo book, and the strange homage to the slasher films. The usual jarring shifts between drama and comedy are totally in poor taste this season. While many characters are struggling with dramatic life decisions, there were random intervals of Alex and Piper's comedic banter while they pretended to build a life together. There were a lot of bad things about this season, and this was a big part of it. While the writers onOITNB have never shied away from the cruel realities of life, we're still totally bitter about John Bennett still not returning to the show.

orange is the new black cast season 5 - This resulted in all of the dorms coming together

While it's unclear if he will ever return, many fans have hoped the hunk won't leave Daya forever. Now that Daya's future is hanging precariously by a thread, it would be the perfect time to revive the story of their love. Season four was painful enough without him, and it was pretty heartbreaking to binge the episodes hoping to see him and being disappointed . While Season five isn't the only season that has been miserably absent of John, it is still one of the reasons this is the worst season of the popular drama yet. We understand that the show is proving a point that people in your life leave without explanation, but we're totally not okay with it.

orange is the new black cast season 5 - Officer Humphrey tried to handle the situation and whip out an illegal gun

While the final episodes of this season were definitely the best of the bunch, the show ended on yet another cheap cliffhanger. Alex almost died in one, a guard almost died in the next, and now all our favorite characters are at risk of retribution for the riot. Will the prison staff shoot them as they all hold hands together and await their fate? Probably not, but the writers couldn't resist planting that idea in our heads.

orange is the new black cast season 5 - Daya eventually picked up the weapon

While the show has taken a few unexpected turns, it isn't known for its ruthless dismissal of characters. It's understandable that the writers have to use cliffhangers to keep us interested, especially since most of us will forget about what happened in season five by the time season six comes out one year later. The cliffhanger was cheap, which is why this is the worst season yet.

orange is the new black cast season 5 - Most of the show

The show is far from unwatchable, but it feels like it's losing steam. While the writers shone a light on the awful truth that romantic relationships can wrongfully develop from trauma, it doesn't mean it made these scenes any easier to watch. Integrating the forgiveness and romanticism into the relationship between Pennsatucky and the correctional officer Coates, who violently violated her in seasons past, is one of the reasons this is a terrible season for OITNB. Watching Pennsatucky save the officer from Leanne and Angie, as well as Coates watching her pleasure herself, was enough to make anyone's skin crawl.

orange is the new black cast season 5 - Alex and Piper happened to run away from the riot

The worst, however, was in the finale when they were seen cuddling and watching television together. It was triggering to see such a dangerous, creepy relationship. The tone of the series isn't serious enough to do this type of trauma justice, because it truly is heartbreaking and a grim reality for many women. The prison drama recently released its final season to the world last Friday, July 26, to immediate trending success and few worries of being replaced as Netflix's most-watched original series. Did anything else scream "unrealistic" more than the show focusing so much on Linda? A visitor getting trapped in the prison during a riot, and then successfully pretending to be a prisoner in order to avoid becoming a hostage?

orange is the new black cast season 5 - These usually end in casualties

Thanks to the flashbacks to her sorority days, she was not a likeable character, and her attitude in the prison didn't win over the fans, either. While it is amusing to see the writers explore the idea of karma through Linda, loyal fans didn't deserve a season focused more on her than Piper or Alex. In every other season, she was cold and uncaring, and she became even more deplorable and unlikeable this season. She made life difficult for all the characters in the prison by not viewing them as humans. The irony that the writers tried to force down our throats was just way too much. We saw her sparingly in the salon when she was trying to help the injured guard, and then she left the prison and was sent to max.

orange is the new black cast season 5 - While the prison is low security

There was no mention about her time in the SHU, her attempt to end her life, or the transphobic abuse that landed her in the SHU to begin with. This is yet another example of how unrealistic the writers have made some of the characters and how they handle their lives and stories. We begun to get some closure with the brutality she faced in season three a year ago, but season five essentially offered us nothing. It was as if the writers wrote the season without Sophia, and then remembered they had to add her in. According to Laura Prepon it will be a long time before we see any sort of stability between the two.

orange is the new black cast season 5 - Red was running around on drugs

Prepon told Itzkoff, "There will never be any settling down for Alex and Piper, which is why it's such a fun relationship to watch." That, and also, a tortuous one. Orange has always trafficked in echoes and parallels to point out that all people—whichever side of the bars they're on—are essentially flawed in the same ways, and that a corrupt system crushes everyone. Hence the show's decision to have the most sympathetic guard, the baby-faced Bayley be the one who accidentally killed Poussey. "Yeah, yeah, we know," a character says early in Season 5, released in its entirety on Friday. "Power erupts." In the past, Orange has emphasized the humanity of the female inmates, showing the emotional complexity and troubled histories of women who are often stereotyped or unfairly judged. But the new season, by contrast, seems intent on proving how flawed all people are.

orange is the new black cast season 5 - The writers must have figured there was some sort of comedy within the dismal state of the shot guard being thrown around like a rag doll

Set over the course of just three days, as a riot plays out, it's less a work of entertainment than a sociological experiment, turning the pressure up on the prisoners and flipping Litchfield's hierarchy upside down. In its first few years of existence, Netflix's Orange Is the New Black evolved from a dramedy about an oblivious white woman enduring prison to a deft and richly textured portrait of injustice in America. In the wake of her death, a particularly sadistic guard brought a gun to work, and the season ended with his weapon being coopted by Daya , in a tense cliffhanger that left viewers wondering whether or not she'd pull the trigger. You can watch the series Orange Is the New Black on the OTT platform Netflix if you have a subscription for that. If the eighth season of the series Orange Is the New Black announces, all episodes of the series Orange Is the New Black Season 8 will be released on the same day of the release like previous seasons. Then there's Laverne Cox, who was largely absent during Season 4.

orange is the new black cast season 5 - The usual jarring shifts between drama and comedy are totally in poor taste this season

Now that Sophia is out of the SHU, hopefully Cox will finally get the promotion to series regular that she's been owed. Sophia was one of the first characters to get a backstory episode, and it was a groundbreaking moment in Hollywood. It's strange that Sophia has been kept mostly as a tertiary character, especially considering how much fans love her.

orange is the new black cast season 5 - While many characters are struggling with dramatic life decisions

Most of the cast has gotten raises since Season 1, so it's time for Laverne Cox and Sophia to get what they deserve. Gloria, desperate to see her son in the hospital, tries sneaking each of the hostage guards outside one at a time while the other inmates, including Ouija, get high on drugs. orange is the new black cast season 5 - There were a lot of bad things about this season

ORANGE IS THE NEW BLACK season 6 has finally been given a release date. Here's everything you need to know about the upcoming season including release date, cast, trailer, plot and more. Piper played such a minor role in season five that it was easy to forget that she was even there. Before, it was frustrating when she would randomly become a part of stories that she didn't belong in, and it seemed like there was too much of a focus on her. Instead of having any gritty involvement in this season, she was cast aside to joke around with Alex and eventually even propose to her.

orange is the new black cast season 5 - While the writers onOITNB have never shied away from the cruel realities of life

The flashback about what it was like for her and Alex before they landed in prison was interesting, but that was honestly all that happened for them this season. Ever since Piper ran the panty ring, it feels like she isn't a huge part of the overall prison story, and while this isn't a bad thing, she was the original main character on the show. If Piper would have been given more screen time, maybe this season would have been better. They are literally no one's favorite, and while they emphasize the brutality of addiction, their stupid antics are focused on way too much. They're nonchalant about finding the corpse of one of the guards while they sniff bleach wasn't entertaining either.

orange is the new black cast season 5 - While it

In future seasons, fans would appreciate less screen time for this obnoxious duo. The writers are making poor decisions for the future of the show when they're focusing on characters that the audience has no emotional attachment to, so if they were smart, Leanne and Angie would be kicked to the curb. Season 6 saw many of our beloved, fan-favorite inmates split up after season 5's prison riot. Piper Chapman was granted early release, as well as Blanca Flores and Sophia , while Alex and the rest of the "Riot Girls" were sent down the hill to the maximum security prison of Litchfield. But the show rarely takes the time to clarify the points it so badly wants to make, leaving viewers to draw their own meaning from the tumult.

orange is the new black cast season 5 - Now that Daya

Dale Soules's Frieda is an intriguing character but viewers don't necessarily need a history of how she became such an efficient survivalist. And the revelation that Beth Dover's callous prison exec Linda was once indirectly responsible for the death of a sorority sister seems included only to hammer home the point that women inherently can be cruel to each other. After Boo disappears, Linda desperately seeks out Caputo, who was let out to back up the inmates' claim of slave labor to Figueroa. Piper and Alex, looking at Linda's phone, are shocked to find photos of her kissing Caputo. The guards—except Luschek—are led to the MCC management, but are led by Maria, who wants to get out to see her little girl.

orange is the new black cast season 5 - Season four was painful enough without him

Orange Is The New Black Season 5 will give us a much more sinister Taystee, who seems to be the most affected by Poussey's death. As awful as Piscatella was in the fourth season, a lot of the misconduct by guards went on without his permission, and it is possible that we will see the CO that everyone hates to love next season. Figueroa returns to the prison, this time as a negotiator for MCC.

orange is the new black cast season 5 - While Season five isn

@yaelstone @dianeguerrero_ @acmoore9 @selenisleyvaofficial #orangesistas @oitnb #family #circleofcentaursjackie thank you @remymartin for this opportunity to mentor an aspiring musician #dreamscometrue ???? Suzanne, who believes Poussey's spirit is still where she died, sets up a shrine on the spot of her death and organizes a séance. A riot is a really tricky corner for the show to try to write itself out of and neatly resolve — so season five doesn't even try. She lost John, then her baby, and then her mother, and it was easy to see how she was alone in the prison. When Gloria promised Aleida she would look after Daya in season four, it was obvious that something bad was on the horizon.

orange is the new black cast season 5 - We understand that the show is proving a point that people in your life leave without explanation

When Daya shot the guard, that was totally unlike her, but it made some sort of sense since she often caves under the pressure of others. However, her story arc contributed to how bad this season was because she's a fan favorite, and everyone can see the murder charge around the corner in season six. It's more than likely she'll leave the show for good while she's taken to a high security prison and court, which is a heartbreaking revelation for the many fans that love her.

orange is the new black cast season 5 - While the final episodes of this season were definitely the best of the bunch

In the fourth season, the guards forced Suzanne to beat up her ex-girlfriend Maureen. It was a savage beating that left Suzanne an emotional mess and completely unstable, which we saw in season four when she threw a bookshelf on herself as a form of punishment. This landed her in the infirmary with Maureen, and that was the end of the emotional turmoil that Suzanne faced. After breaking down and having a severe episode, it was as if the beginning of the new season washed all of those wounds away, even though very little time had passed since that moment. Suzanne helped Maureen throughout most of season five while Maureen was dealing with debilitating contusions from the beating, but there was no mention of the actual incident.

orange is the new black cast season 5 - Alex almost died in one

It is totally unrealistic how these characters deal with trauma and other facets of their life, which is why this season marks a serious decline in the show. Prepon continued to describe the dynamic, "It's just one of those things where you really can't control where your heart goes. They love each other and they hate each other, and they manipulate each other and they help each other when they need it, but the thing that's so great is that it's always grounded in the reality that they do ultimately love each other.

orange is the new black cast season 5 - Will the prison staff shoot them as they all hold hands together and await their fate

You're always kind of rooting for them because of that genuine love." There's no doubt that the two inmates and exes share something. Whether or not that's "love" at this point remains to be seen as it's hard to tell from their primarily self-motivated actions. But, if this season couldn't bring the two together, what could? Do they both have to be in happy places for their relationship to work? Will there ever be "normal" relationship between them that doesn't including lying or backstabbing?

orange is the new black cast season 5 - Probably not

File all these questions and more under "things about Piper and Alex that keep me up at night." Some fans may be alarmed to hear that the 13 episodes will only cover three days. But the cast has assured us that many questions will be answered. "You can expect Jenji will … she will answer a lot of unresolved questions that season four left you with," Uzo Aduba told E!

orange is the new black cast season 5 - While the show has taken a few unexpected turns

A subtle detail in a teaser posted on Twitter gave us an idea for where those buses might be going. The jail seen in the opening credits is no longer Litchfield but a maximum security prison, complete with a shower with built-in handcuffs. Ostensibly, at least some of the participants in the prison riot last episode will be traveling to maximum security prison — perhaps for a reunion with Miss Claudette , sent to max at the end of season 1. Before we start with who is coming back, let's review who definitely isn't returning. Towards the end of last season, the inmates were freed from two of their most palpable threats. The heinous Piscatella was shot in the head by a stray bullet, and the similarly heinous Officer Humphrey was killed when Kukudio blew oxygen bubbles into his IV after he was shot in the leg by Daya .

orange is the new black cast season 5 - It

Linda is still disguised as a prisoner, and wherever Linda is, Caputo isn't far behind. Natalie "Fig" Figueroa had an eventful season trying to broker a peace between the inmates and the prison, and will be back in season 6 to deal with riot's aftermath. We don't blame you if you can't quite remember where we left off with each character at the end of the prison riot. And even more boarded buses headed toward an unknown destination. This period of time begins at the exact moment when Season 4 ended, with the women of Litchfield rising up against the guards, and inmate Dayanara holding a gun.

orange is the new black cast season 5 - The cliffhanger was cheap

And without getting into spoilers, said riot consumes the season, the women taking control of the prison and establishing their own society within the confines of these cement walls. The first five seasons took place in Litchfield Penitentiary, a minimum-security federal prison. Following a prison riot that comprised the fifth season, several inmates were transferred to Litchfield's maximum-security facility where Season Six took place. Here's Adrienne C. Moore looking fabulous at the final season premiere of "OITNB."

orange is the new black cast season 5 - The show is far from unwatchable

Brooks showed off her pregnancy at the "OITNB" final season premiere. Stone showed off shorter hair at the "OITNB" final season premiere. With the show's final seventh season on Netflix, keep reading to see how a majority of the inmates look when they're not behind bars. If you were sad many of the Litchfield women were left out of season six, they are all back in some way to say goodbye. Season 7 of the prison drama will follow Piper as she integrates back into society, Taystee as she copes with her life sentence, and Nicky, Red and the rest of the gang as they deal with life in max. "In its final season, the ladies of Litchfield come to terms with the fact that prison has changed them forever," Netflix announced of the new season.

orange is the new black cast season 5 - While the writers shone a light on the awful truth that romantic relationships can wrongfully develop from trauma

Meanwhile, Tasha "Taystee" Jefferson was sentenced to life in prison after she took the fall for the riot and was found guilty of the murder of CO Piscatella , and Lorna went into early labor, leaving fans wondering if she lost her baby. There was definitely a lot to unpack during the season 6 finale of the show. If you were trying to summarize the tone of the 13 new episodes in two words, "earnest farce" might do it. The strength of the previous seasons was that the show was able to break your heart when it wanted to—to fully emphasize how exploitative and enraging and evil systems of power can be—by putting the jokes on hold. But this new experiment with timing forces comedy and tragedy up against each other in awkward proximity, juxtaposing suicidal impulses with pet grooming and flaming hot Cheetos with solitary confinement.

fargo season 2 episode 7

Speaking of more, the duo's follow-up scene was almost the exact opposite of their aforementioned meeting. Touching, heartfelt and utterly devastating, Betsey's instructions to Karl on how to take care of her family when she passes defined both characters so well. It established a friendly connection between the pair, too, but the biggest takeaway was how much everyone loved each other in that room, in that house and in that town.

fargo season 2 episode 7 - Speaking of more

The good people look out for each other, even if Karl didn't want to discuss as much considering how defeatist it seemed. Now, how she deals with the discovery of her dad's bizarre signs translating alien symbols — that I don't know. Nor do I know how it could connect to the larger UFO theme of the season. It's tense, as Bear talks in a low, grumbling voice and appearing cold to his niece.

fargo season 2 episode 7 - Touching

She is rightfully nervous, having just before walked out of the hotel where Milligan was staying. Then Bear pulls over out in the woods, asking Simone to come – "You're scaring me," she tells him. Slowly he walks his niece out further into the trees, accusing her of "sleeping with the enemy" and talks about how women had their heads shaved for "bedding Germans". The cinematography here is equally as eerie, it unsettled me to watch overhead as Bear basically – I assume – takes Simone on a death march. Plus, a few creepy handheld-like shots quivering together in a big, beautiful edited jumble.

fargo season 2 episode 7 - It established a friendly connection between the pair

I really loved this whole bit, no matter how brutal it was beneath it all. Just an incredibly great sequence from visuals to performances. An entirely unexpected 5 minutes, which work so perfectly.

fargo season 2 episode 7 - The good people look out for each other

Another example of the quality work being put into this series, from the camerawork to the writing to all the choice music being used for such memorable scenes. From here, there can be no going back because too many people have been killed and that body count will continue to grow. It's as inevitable as Mike telling Lou that the northern expansion is inevitable because it's the future. Several times this season, characters have reflected on simpler times where people lived as good neighbors and could leave their doors unlocked.

fargo season 2 episode 7 - Now

Now we live in a world plagued by war, cancer, violence, and the Mickey Mouse Club. It's enough for the local law enforcement to bring Floyd in for a chat, to try and calm the situation down. This turns out to work to Floyd's advantage; after making a fuss over turning rat, Floyd feeds Hank and the police chief info about Kansas City's operations, hitting them where they live and giving her own side an advantage.

fargo season 2 episode 7 - Nor do I know how it could connect to the larger UFO theme of the season

It's something Lou picks up on late in the game, as the cops, in their efforts to figure things out, have inadvertently picked sides in a war with no heroes in it. Getting to see Floyd in action is a good turn, especially when that action reinforces what a mess this whole situation is. Right now, it's hard to see how this is going to end.

fargo season 2 episode 7 - Its tense

Because, as Mike himself tells Lou later on, Kansas City is the "future." A local crime family just isn't going to have the resources to keep this up long term, not even if they do bring in guys from Buffalo. She's a dying woman in a world where there's no discernable response to stemming the violence. Despite having the sugar pills, despite her husband risking his life, despite knowing that she may not live long enough to see her daughter grow up, she's taking advantage of the time she has left.

fargo season 2 episode 7 - She is rightfully nervous

The scene between Betsy and Karl was a very warm moment made better by the way Milioti and Nick Offerman played off of each other. As an anthology, each season of Fargo is engineered to have a self-contained narrative, following a disparate set of characters in various settings. Noah Hawley and his team of writers used the second season to expand the scope of the show's storytelling—from its narrative to its characters. They increased the show's cast of core characters to five, each with interconnecting arcs and different viewpoints of the central story. Hawley wanted viewers to sympathize with characters they might not feel empathy for in real life.

fargo season 2 episode 7 - Then Bear pulls over out in the woods

The producers at one point discussed revisiting a modern period for their story. According to Hawley, the change in the time period helped to develop a sense of turbulence and violence in a world that "could not be more fractured and complicated and desperate". I think we all suspected that Bear — the strong, quiet type from the get-go — would be forced to confront some sides of himself he wasn't comfortable assessing before. He either killed or exiled his niece, all while her dad was held captive by two people his son was in charge of killing; though his son was only put in that position because of his uncle's decision. That's some messed up family drama right there — that only viewers will be able to keep straight — and it's bound to make everyone else's Thanksgiving get together's look downright serene. Mike Milligan's newfound meaning could also mean ruin for the Gerhardts, who are more lost and fractured than ever.

fargo season 2 episode 7 - Slowly he walks his niece out further into the trees

He recounts a story of a boy who killed his parents one day without warning. "Our stories used to be simpler, that's for sure," Floyd says. That aesthetic can make for some odd situations, though. After he finds her coming out of Mike Milligan's hotel, Bear drags Simone into the wilderness to pay for her betrayal. Obviously sensing further calamities to follow, especially after his confrontation with Deafy earlier, Odis packs up his apartment, ready to get out of town. But Opal picks him up before he can leave and takes him to Loy's gym, where Swanee and Zelmare deliberately antagonize him until they're given instructions to leave by Loy, under threats against Dibrell.

fargo season 2 episode 7 - The cinematography here is equally as eerie

"Lay Away" has another actorly showcase for Chris Rock here, as Loy outlines the Faddas' strategy of trying to turn him into an animal, like them. Opal thinks the situation isn't complex, just kill or be killed, win or lose, but Loy is head of the family precisely because he doesn't think that way. Snap from the hotel to Betsy Solverson who arrives home to suspicious boots in her porch. Immediately, and very smart, she goes for a shotgun in the closet and goes up to the kitchen. There stand Karl Weathers and Sonny Greer cooking breakfast. Apparently her "lesser half" asked them to make sure she was doing all right and to look after her and Molly.

fargo season 2 episode 7 - Plus

Awesome little scene I thought fit in well among everything else happening during this episode. I think I may have enjoyed this episode a bit more than others because it gave attention to characters that we've seen, but not focused on for much time. A prequel to the events in its first season, season two of Fargo takes place in the Upper Midwest in March 1979. It follows the lives of a young couple—Peggy and Ed Blumquist —as they attempt to cover up the hit and run and homicide of Rye Gerhardt , the son of Floyd Gerhardt , matriarch of the Gerhardt crime family. During this time, Minnesota state trooper Lou Solverson , and Rock County sheriff Hank Larsson , investigate three homicides linked to Rye. Back at the Solverson house, Karl keeps a watchful eye on Betsy who claims she feels fine.

fargo season 2 episode 7 - I really loved this whole bit

She tells the story of how her older sister was supposed to marry Lou but he went off to serve in Vietnam and she couldn't wait. Karl's happy it's Betsy and Lou, telling her he'd take the two of them over Lou and her sister any day. Betsy is touched and asks Karl if he'll look after her family when she's gone. She knows she got the sugar pills and isn't getting better.

fargo season 2 episode 7 - Just an incredibly great sequence from visuals to performances

She says to pass on to Lou that it's okay to get married again when she's gone. She tells him to stop drinking, he says okay, and then they hug. " plows through a lot of narrative business, but it coheres around the theme of family values, with Simone's demise at the heart of it. For much of the season, the soft-spoken Bear has seemed like the one redeemable figure in the Gerhardt family, quietly steering his son away from violence while submitting to his mother's plan to compromise with Kansas City. But this episode reveals him as someone who's more interested in closing ranks and protecting the Gerhardt family than questioning its mission or its values.

fargo season 2 episode 7 - An entirely unexpected 5 minutes

The turf war continues as Bear and Ricky G posing as window washers gun down a KC mafia associate and his clients in a high rise office building. Elsewhere, Gale Kitchen fatally strangulates a Gerhardt clan member. Meanwhile, Floyd and her family bury her husband Otto who was shot to death during the raid on their compound led by Mike and his KC gunmen. Next to Otto's grave is Rye's and Simone throws his belt buckle down into it.

fargo season 2 episode 7 - Another example of the quality work being put into this series

Ben and Lou show up and arrest Floyd in connection to the shootout in the woods that killed Joe Bulo and Wayne Kitchen among others. FX already released the official promo of the next episode of the series, which is set to release very soon. The teaser features some really exciting moments, which is enough to increase the hype for the upcoming episode.

fargo season 2 episode 7 - From here

It teases a potential that will be made between two main characters of the series. The show is finally increasing its pace and growing more exciting day by day. Lou and Hank investigate in Fargo; the king of breakfast visits Betsy and Molly; Floyd is summoned away; and Bear questions a family member's loyalty. Because the Italians are counting on him to do their own dirty work. The two remaining unresolved mysteries from last week's episode don't get resolved until the end of this episode. In the big reveal, we see Jesse calling Mike Milligan's hotel suite (how did he get the number?) to let him know that he has Dodd in the trunk of his car.

fargo season 2 episode 7 - Its as inevitable as Mike telling Lou that the northern expansion is inevitable because its the future

He's also been the one calling the Gerhardt's in an attempt to tell them the same thing; Bear had stiff-armed his attempts, but now that Floyd knows, he can do so no longer. As the episode fades on a shot of Ed getting into what appears to be Dodd's car, we finally get the MacGuffin that leads everyone to Sioux Falls. As Simone pleads for her life, saying that they're family, Bear tells her that none of them are family anymore.

fargo season 2 episode 7 - Several times this season

Simone begs to be banished and run out of town instead, but Bear says that it's already done. When this call ends, a pissed Simone enters to chew Mike out for killing Otto instead of Dodd. In response, Mike quotes rattles off a series of quotes. If the goal is to kill your oppressors, what does it matter who goes first? This talk is interrupted when Lou and Ben storm in the room, with Lou ordering Ben to take Simone out with him.

fargo season 2 episode 7 - Now we live in a world plagued by war

Charlie is in jail, Dodd missing, husband missing. It's a question of how many ghosts you can live with for the rest of your life, but Floyd isn't concerned. Hank shot a man through the teeth in Vichy, France and he can still see his face. Floyd maintains that the butcher from Luverne killed Rye, but Hank maintains that he's known Ed all his life and knows that he doesn't work for the mob. If he's working for Kansas City, Hank will cut off his own toe. The entire sequence of Simone's death, from the incredibly tense small-talk in the car to the downright beautiful "Danny Boy" montage of the Gerhardt family, was exquisite.

fargo season 2 episode 7 - Its enough for the local law enforcement to bring Floyd in for a chat

A principal cast of five actors received star billing in the show's second season. Hawley did not tailor his characters with any specific actors in mind, though Nick Offerman, Brad Garrett, Patrick Wilson and Kirsten Dunst were among the few he considered for starring roles in the season's early stages. The search for talent was sometimes an exhaustive process that required advertising via custom built websites and social media. Once actors were hired, their agents were made aware of the frigid shooting conditions and any issues with the location and potential scheduling conflicts during production were discussed.

fargo season 2 episode 7 - This turns out to work to Floyds advantage after making a fuss over turning rat

Hawley discussed the script with actors who had little experience in the television industry. "They're used to reading the whole story but you've given them one or two hours of it," he remarked. Once hired, the actors trained with a dialect coach to master a Minnesota accent. fargo season 2 episode 7 - Its something Lou picks up on late in the game

As an anthology, each Fargo season possesses its own self-contained narrative, following a disparate set of characters in various settings. At the hotel, Mike stares in the mirror until he's interrupted by a knock. He's accompanied by two men and upon entering the room Mike and the Kitchen brother take all three out quickly, before they can reach for their guns.

fargo season 2 episode 7 - Getting to see Floyd in action is a good turn

Mike tells the Kitchen brother to drop them in the woods and tell the boss the Gerhardts got them. The phone rings and it's Ed who says he has Dodd Gerhardt in his car and wants to know if Mike wants him. Mike wants to know if he has to go home but Lou says no, "Just don't be here." Mike asks if he knows about Manifest Destiny, and Lou says he owns two pairs of shoes because you don't need to own more than you need. They discuss capitalism, greed, and making this war an all or nothing proposition.

fargo season 2 episode 7 - Right now

Mike tells a story of a guy who steals wheelbarrows and says sometimes the answer is too obvious. "See, we can't leave because we're the future and they're the past. Past can no more become the future than the future can become the past." Lou and Ben prepare to leave, telling him they've said their peace. Lou warns him that maybe next time he'll shoot first. Mike's on the phone with his boss who's back in KC at the shot-up office building, and he's not happy with Mike's work.

fargo season 2 episode 7 - Because

Mike tells him he can still break this family and his boss gives him two days and then he'll send in the Undertaker. Simone runs in and yells at him for shooting up her house. Mike tosses some quotes at her which she's never heard before, angering Simone even more. Just then there's a knock and Lou and Ben barge in, taking down the Kitchen brother who was about to attack Simone.

fargo season 2 episode 7 - Shes a dying woman in a world where theres no discernable response to stemming the violence

Ben escorts her out while Lou holds the Kitchen brother and Mike at gunpoint. Chief Gibson says he's sorry Otto passed and Floyd's angry the KC mafia shot him in his own home with kids sleeping right upstairs. Hank wants to know how far this war will go, with her family paying a stiff price. Floyd says her back's to the wall, claiming the Butcher of Luverne killed her boy and he's working for KC. Hank's known Ed since he was a kid and says there's no way that's what happened.

fargo season 2 episode 7 - Despite having the sugar pills

Floyd calls Ed a sleeper agent and insists Hank doesn't really know him. Chief Gibson wants the war to be over, but Floyd says her boys won't stop; they're too proud. Hank suggests she point the police in the right direction to take down the KC mafia, but she thinks that would be snitching. In today's day-and-age, unless we see a bullet fly through the head of its victim, that person could still be alive. The dramatic overhead shot followed by a distanced angle and the sound of a gunshot certainly implied Simone got got, but we can't officially put her in the ground just yet. Bear's motivations, though, were clear if not entirely pure.

fargo season 2 episode 7 - The scene between Betsy and Karl was a very warm moment made better by the way Milioti and Nick Offerman played off of each other

She was caught red-handed giving the go ahead to Kansas City, meaning she needed to be punished, but Bear is also still fuming over his own son's fate, very much brought about by Dodd ordering him to kill "The Butcher" . Bear doesn't seem like the type to be killing kids, kin or both, but he may have been pushed past his limit by his brother. The episode contrasts the implosion of the Gerhardt family with an affirmation of the Solversons, whose essential decency will ensure its long-term survival, despite the cruel vicissitudes of fate. Betsy Solverson is not going to survive cancer like John McCain survived the thumbscrews of the Hanoi Hilton, but she's in the process of making peace with that reality. She tells Karl Weathers, a.k.a. "the King of Breakfast," to look after Lou and Molly when she's gone and gives consent for her husband to remarry. The Solversons aspire to live in peace, and keep the front door unlocked.
